Notes and Policies

Check-in/Check-out:

Check-in is guaranteed anytime after 4pm, however come to the Inn as soon as you get to the island to drop off your luggage, grab a cup of coffee, etc.  We can often get you in earlier than 4pm and are happy to give you a call when your room is ready if requested.  Check-out is at 10am, but similarly, if you are on the island longer, we are happy to hold on to your bags as long as you need on the day of your departure.

Bikes:
Please feel free to bring your own bicycle, or rent bikes from a local island bike rental shop.  We have a bike rack on property for bike parking.

E-Bikes:

Per City of Mackinac Island Ordinance 584, EBikes are not permitted on Mackinac Island without permit.  It is the recommendation of the Mackinac Island Fire Department that historical buildings such as ours DO NOT charge ebike batteries on our premises.  We hold to that recommendation.  No ebike batteries can be charged inside or outside Haan's 1830 Inn.

Food Allergies:

If you have a significant gluten, dairy, or nut allergy, or are a vegetarian, please let us know ahead of time.  We make many of our breakfast items here on property, so we are flexible with what ingredients we use.

Additional guests:

We have some rooms that we allow additional guests in, and some rooms that we do not.  Please call us if you need to add people to your reservation.  If you need a cot or pack n play for your stay, we can provide either or both, please let us know prior to your arrival.  There is a $20 additional fee to have more than the standard amount of people in each room.  Most rooms sleep two, while the Beaumont, Cass Suites, and the Rev William Ferry all sleep four.

WIFI and technology on property:

We value the Mackinac Island experience, allowing our guests to escape to a different, more simple time.  While we do have free WIFI on property, it is admittedly not great for streaming movies.  We also do not have TVs in guest rooms or spaces.  If you are looking for evening activities for your families, we have many board games available in the parlor, and lawn games for outdoor activities.  We also recommend evening strolls into town, or down to the local park.  If you are in need of modern technology, like high speed WIFI and TVs, we recommend staying in other island accommodations.

Another note:

Haan’s 1830 Inn was indeed built in 1830, with one wing built in 1847, and a final addition in 1988.  Keeping this in mind, as an older, historical home, you may note whimsical oddities like slanted ceilings and floors in some places, and small bathrooms.  Most décor and furnishings are antiques, which complete the feel of escaping to the past.  We have children of our own, and welcome children and families on property, but it should be noted in case guests are concerned about fragile furniture.  If this is a concern of yours, please let us know, some rooms are more suitable for small children than others.

Pets:

During most of the summer season, there is a dog on property, but he does not enter guest spaces.  He may occasionally be seen in the yard, or on a porch.  Please let us know if you or any of your party have an aversion or allergy to dogs, and we can be sure to keep him away from porches during your stay.  We do not however, allow guests to bring pets, keeping with the policy of not allowing pets in guest spaces.

Cancellations:

We have a 14 day cancellation policy: any cancellation made 14 or more days prior to your arrival date would receive a deposit refund.  Every cancellation however, does incur a $20 cancellation fee.  If you cancel within 14 days of your stay, you forfeit your deposit, unless we re-book the room.

Payment:

Fifty percent of your reservation will be due upon booking for all credit card reservations, with the remaining balance due upon arrival.  If you are paying with a check or money order other policies apply, please contact us.  Thank you and we look forward to having you stay with us,

Shannon [Haan] Westblade, Haan’s 1830 Inn
